“Council Member Clare Kelly, in whose First Ward the project is located, spoke at the meeting in praise of the building’s adaptive reuse, saying the action was in keeping with other measures the council took that night, such as approving major climate change legislation. “In the words of Carl Elefante, the former president of the American Institute of Architects, ‘The greenest building is the one that already exists.’ And I think we should do a lot more of this.”She also pointed to the developers’ plan for Bookman’s Alley as another special feature of the project and said, “I just think this is very exciting.”
