Inflation is an urgent issue affecting all Americans, but low-income people and communities are getting hit the hardest. When you’re already living paycheck to paycheck, an increase in rent, groceries, gas and other necessities has a big impact. Local leaders across the country recognize this and are prioritizing ways to help these residents. At the same time, increased federal assistance to local governments and others during the COVID-19 emergency is being scrutinized for its impact on inflation. This session will explore these issues with a focus on how cities and towns can reduce the worst impacts of inflation and support a more equitable economic recovery. The session also will help local leaders think about the next steps in pandemic recovery after the programs in the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) come to an end.
